We would like to invite your organization to participate in bringing WOMAG’s flagship event Meal with a Mission to life. WOMAG is a community of over 1000 professionals, women and men, promoting diversity and inclusion in agribusiness in Asia. Our mission is to accelerate the development of leaders (esp. women) in the food and agriculture ecosystem in Southeast Asia, by providing opportunities for networking, knowledge-building and professional development. We’re an entirely volunteer-driven organization, with our team members representing companies from across the agribusiness sector.
Following the inaugural Meal with a Mission that was held in 2020, this year’s “mission” is “The Future of Food and Farming”.
The “mission” for these farm-to-fork experiences is chosen to reflect issues relevant to our community. Last year, the mission was Singapore Food Stories. Our aim was to showcase organizations and individuals that are playing a vital role in transforming the local agri-food sector. Over the next decade, Singapore will be increasing its food self-sufficiency, and COVID-19 had brought into sharp focus the importance of resilient and sustainable food production, with controllable supply chains. This successful event attracted more than 80 attendees from diverse backgrounds, including traders, brokers & investors, food companies, agricultural input providers, industry associations, agricultural consultants and entrepreneurs.
This year, the theme for Meal with a Mission is “The Future of Food and Farming.”
Our aim is to look beyond Singapore context and to dive deeper into the food security and food safety. This is especially so from the continuous backdrop of a fast-growing global population and gradual recovery of the world from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Governments, food manufacturers and consumers have also started to redefine the “new normal” of our food reality. Some of the key trends and concerns that influence the way we farm and purchase our food are starting to revolve around sustainability in the face of climate change, health and nutrition. Sustainable products such as cell-based meats, plant-based proteins, dairy-free alternatives and organic ingredients are growing in popularity, fast becoming staples on the supermarket shelves. Meanwhile, modern farming techniques like hydroponics, aquaponics, vertical farms and drone technology are revolutionizing the way we approach agriculture to meet the challenge of feeding a world of almost 10 billion people by 2050. To this end, we aim to spotlight the innovations that are shaping “The Future of Food and Farming.”
